Ranking Olympic Sports: From Virtual Medal Table to Elo

 

Arpad Elo introduced the Elo rating system for chess as a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games (other sports are badminton, handball etc.). At Infostrada Sports we have developed a variant of the Elo rating system to also rate multi-competitor sports (athletics, swimming etc.) Based on the original and our newly developed Elo rating system we can now calculate ratings and rankings for every Olympic discipline from Badminton Men Singles to Athletics Women's 200m at any moment in time and can always give you the current state of play in the Olympic domain.
